In-person Externship

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy Guided Externship Program

IIT’s mission of sharing knowledge and educating the next generation of ketamine assisted practitioners is now accessible through our 8 week Guided Externship Program. We offer this externship to provide the highest quality care in serving our clients and community.

The externship is available to those who have completed our 4 day online training (or comparable training elsewhere) and are seeking to join the team at IIT to do ketamine assisted psychotherapy.

October 25 - December 23, 2023

9am to 5pm US Central Time

The 2-day ketamine experiential is $800 with dates to be announced soon.

We offer 2 scholarships per cohort for those who wish to do this work with us and need financial aid, as well as payment plans.

Please email a resume and cover letter to [email protected] to express your interest.

Through the program, each individual will have access to weekly case consultation meetings that include IIT Medical and Mental Health Leadership, two individual consultations with IIT leadership during the first 8 weeks of the apprenticeship, four 90 minute didactic/consultation groups (biweekly) over 8 weeks, and shadowing IIT Medical and Therapy staff to learn preparation therapy, ketamine medicine therapy, and integration therapy. Externs go through the program in a cohort model to enhance support and learning as well as to build a community of providers engaging in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy.

An optional 2-day experiential ketamine session will be offered to those that are assessed to be medically appropriate.

Our guided externship will help prepare the learner in the fundamentals of ketamine as a change agent. This will include learning ketamine’s mechanisms of action in the brain leading to neuroplasticity, safely delivering KAP, as well as the underpinnings of general psychedelic research.

Ultimately, IIT’s goal is to equip each learner with a solid foundation of learning through experience to become comfortable being a KAP therapist, serving with expertise, integrity and the highest of ethics.

Upon completion of the 8 week program, externs graduate and can actively receive referrals for clients, bring clients from their own practices to do KAP work, attend weekly consultation group, and be a part of the IIT team. Our team members will have first access to future training for MDMA and psilocybin therapy, engaging in research trials, and offering psychedelic medicines as they become available.

At this time, we are open to applications from those who hold independent licenses to practice in Minnesota.
